Some 20000+ fans followed the cream of English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh rugby to New Zealand, to watch them combine as The British & Irish Lions, and take on the mighty New Zealand All Blacks.
Many of you will have seen Val and Ken, the FOCUS ON THE FANS photojournalists, as they travelled around the country to watch matches and meet fans. Our purpose was to produce a high quality book, rich in fan stories and photographs - and now it's ready to be read.
We wanted the book to be a collective memento of the 2017 Lions tour experience, so talked to as many of the fans as we could while we were there, collecting their stories about why they went (it’s never just about the rugby!), and their experiences on tour.
Lions Legend Rory Underwood said he was honoured to write the superb foreword he has for this tribute to all fans who have followed The Lions past and present.
Warren Gatland emailed Ken the day after the historic third test with this quote:
"The most memorable part of the tour has been the Lions fans. They were awesome!"
Trudi Gatland has read the book and said:
"It brought tears to my eyes and reminded me exactly what this Lions Tour was all about. Thank you so much and I wish you all the best with the sales."
We always intended that rugby related charities should benefit from this book. For all hardback book orders through this website at £24 NOW £15 (+ £3.75 for Royal Mail parcel post and packaging per copy) WE WILL STILL DONATE £8 PER COPY TO CHARITY. All funds generated will be split equally between Wooden Spoon, RFU Injured Players Foundation, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation supporting research into Motor Neurone Disease, and Borne, in support of Will Greenwood's epic North Pole trek. I've added the latter not just in honour of Will's effort, but also in honour of my now 64 year old sister Val, only 2½ lb at her pre-term birth, and her twin Clifford, who didn't survive.
